Modern E-collars fulfill the same basic purpose, delivering a pulse of electrical stimulation to your dog in response to a press of a button on a remote. They make it possible to communicate with your dog while training and bring their attention back to you in a dangerous situation.

But E-collars on the market today offer many additional features that enable a safer, more nuanced, and more comfortable training experience for you and your dog. These are some of the leading features to consider when selecting an E-collar.

Popular Options with E-Collars

There are some features of E-collars that many trainers consider a must for the safety of your dog. Cheap E-collars, for instance, may only include a few levels that are too intense. Your dog’s neck is sensitive, and electrical stimulation that is effective for them can feel like a gentle buzz on your palm.

You also want an E-collar that is programmed specifically for your remote. A cheap collar can be triggered by garage door remotes, radio towers, or other collar remotes, giving your dog a false stimulation that you cannot control

After these features, others you may want to consider include:

  • Boost - Some remotes have a button you can press for a quick boost in stimulation in a high risk situation.
  • Vibration or Tone Options - To accompany electrical stimulation, a vibration or sound from the collar can augment your training.
  • Remote Attachment - A belt clip, wrist strap, or other method can keep the remote attached to you so you always know where it is.
  • Multicollar Options - A few brands have the option to use multiple collars with a single remote if you are training two or three dogs at once.
  • Range - The range of collars varies from a few hundred yards to ¾ of a mile depending on how you will be using it.
  • Levels - Most of the best collars have at least a dozen stimulation levels. Some have more than 100, including both constant and variable.
  • Level Locks - To avoid accidentally increasing the shock level, an equipmed level lock can keep the level where you set it.
  • Lights - An LED light on the collar makes it possible to see your dog if she wanders away during the night.

Other options like screen size and brightness, remote size, and color can also make this training method easier for you to use, and help you get the most out of your E-collar for your dog.

Our Philosophy & Goals

Our philosophy is simple. Improve the life of both dog and family. All too often, unruly dogs do not fully enjoy life because their families constantly become upset and frustrated with them. This is difficult for both family and dog.

Our mission is simple. Make both dog and family happy.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him leadership and attention.

Making the family happy is a bit more complex.

Families typically want their dog to:

  • Come when called, every time, on or off leash
  • Walk nicely on a loose leash without pulling
  • Sit until released
  • Down until released

Families also want their dogs:

  • Not to jump on people
  • Not to charge through doors
  • Not to dig in the garden
  • Not to bark and chew  inappropriately
  • Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
  • Not to sniff and eat off the table and counters.
  • Not to be wild and uncontrollable
  • Not to ignore you when you want their attention
