Every family deserves a dog, just as every dog deserves a family. Dogs are the perfect match for any household, providing love, care, affection, and so much more.

The only issue that families have is that their canine companion may not yet be ready to integrate into the behavioral rules of the household. Dogs are family members, but they're also animals, and animals have specific behaviors and needs that may differ from those of their human family. When you have a dog that isn't behaving as you need it to, the first thing you should do is contact a dog trainer in Downers Grove, IL, so that we can help you train your dog in the behaviors you hope for the most.

Our Approach to Dog Training

Marc Goldberg literally wrote the book on dog training. He co-authored "Let Dogs Be Dogs," a book about how to train your dog using the ForceFree method. This book has altered the way that even professional dog trainers help to train their pets. As a Chicago native, he and his partner Patrick Farrell, use this gentle, effective methodology to train dogs in Downers Grove and beyond.

At Chicago Dog Trainer, our trainers work with you as an individual and help with your dog's specific behavioral needs. Dog training is also not just about training your pet. It’s about training the both of you, as you are the alpha of the pack that is the best choice to guide them in their behaviors, and the one that they turn to for love, support, and affection as well. Our Downers Grove dog trainer services are about strengthening the bond that both of you share, while also teaching your dog the most important behaviors for becoming and staying a positive member of the family.

We offer several dog training programs for those interested in exploring these options, including:

  • Pack Leader Programs – Our pack leader programs involve you, your family, and your dog all learning new behaviors together while teaching you how to alter your dog’s behaviors without aggression or force. We train dogs of all ages and all breeds from puppy to senior dogs, and we can help with all different types of behavioral issues including leash walking and jumping behaviors.
  • Boarding School Programs – Our boarding school programs are useful for those that do not have time to train or would like us to lay the ground work. We take your dog for 1, 2, or 3 weeks (depending on the behavioral needs), and then continue to train your dog ourselves. On the last day, you come in for a final training so that you can take the tips and techniques home with you. The three week program is especially useful for those who have dogs with more advanced behavioral challenges, such as anxiety and aggression. It's also a great choice for those already planning to leave for a trip, and would like to come home to a well trained dog.

With our private dog training lessons to our Downers Grove dog bootcamps, we have solutions that are ready to help you and your dog get the care and training that you need.

Our Philosophy & Goals

Our philosophy is simple. Improve the life of both dog and family. All too often, unruly dogs do not fully enjoy life because their families constantly become upset and frustrated with them. This is difficult for both family and dog.

Our mission is simple. Make both dog and family happy.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him leadership and attention.

Making the family happy is a bit more complex.

Families typically want their dog to:

  • Come when called, every time, on or off leash
  • Walk nicely on a loose leash without pulling
  • Sit until released
  • Down until released

Families also want their dogs:

  • Not to jump on people
  • Not to charge through doors
  • Not to dig in the garden
  • Not to bark and chew  inappropriately
  • Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
  • Not to sniff and eat off the table and counters.
  • Not to be wild and uncontrollable
  • Not to ignore you when you want their attention
