When a dog struggles with their behavior, it is not necessarily the dog that is to blame. We, as dog lovers, are the ones in charge of showing our dogs how we need them to act. Our dogs love us at their very core, and only wants to make sure that we are going to continue to allow it to be an important member of our pack.

Sometimes, that takes dog training. In Wilmette, IL, families that find that their dogs are not behaving as they'd hoped may want to consider our dog training services. Chicago Dog Trainer is led by Marc Goldberg, Co-Author of the popular dog trainer book "Let Dogs Be Dogs." With his Partner, Patrick Farrell, Chicago Dog Trainer has worked with hundreds of dogs in the Wilmette area over the past 30 years. We’re happy to provide dog training to Wilmette, with an approach that is both more effective and gentler than traditional dog training techniques. We are ready to teach your dog – and you – how to address the behaviors that you most want to see.

Our dog training methodology is fun and natural for your pet, and perfect for helping your dog maintain the behaviors you want to see without giving up on being a dog.

Our Programs and Services

We offer several Wilmette dog training services. These services can take place at our "Little Dog Farm," a multi acre property that your dog is certain to love. Or we can travel to your home and train you there. We also have several doggy bootcamp programs to consider for more in-depth training.

Our primary service is a one on one dog training program where we work with you, your dog, and any family members you’d like to invite. These “Pack Leader” programs show you how to use the “ForceFree” method, coined by Marc Goldberg that is used across the country by other dog trainers. Through these programs, we can work on specific behaviors (such as walking your dog on a leash, teaching them to come when called, and many other common challenges) or we can teach you more about the ForceFree method so that you can teach your dog new behaviors and tricks over time.

We also have boarding school programs that allow you to drop your dog off with us and let us train them for you. These programs are a great choice for families that want their dog trained while they're away on vacation, or they want us to handle the hard work and then they pick up their dog at the end of the time period. We have three different boarding programs depending on the severity of the behavioral challenges. At the end of the 1, 2, or 3 week session, you come pick up your dog and learn what techniques you need to continue to do at home.

Our Wilmette boarding school programs are great for dogs with mild behavioral challenges as well as dogs that struggle with more severe issues like aggression, and all of our services are perfect for common behaviors such as:

  • Walking on a leash.
  • Listening to commands.
  • Staying off the couch and people, and more.

Between our one on one training sessions and our dog bootcamp programs, we're here to make sure that you have the dog training methodology that matches your dog's needs, your budget, and your dog training preferences. We’d love a chance to meet your dog, or talk to you about your dog training needs and see if we're a good fit for our services. If you live in Wilmette, and you're ready to learn more about our dog trainers and programs, please contact us today and let's get started.

Our Philosophy & Goals

Our philosophy is simple. Improve the life of both dog and family. All too often, unruly dogs do not fully enjoy life because their families constantly become upset and frustrated with them. This is difficult for both family and dog.

Our mission is simple. Make both dog and family happy.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him leadership and attention.

Making the family happy is a bit more complex.

Families typically want their dog to:

  • Come when called, every time, on or off leash
  • Walk nicely on a loose leash without pulling
  • Sit until released
  • Down until released

Families also want their dogs:

  • Not to jump on people
  • Not to charge through doors
  • Not to dig in the garden
  • Not to bark and chew  inappropriately
  • Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
  • Not to sniff and eat off the table and counters.
  • Not to be wild and uncontrollable
  • Not to ignore you when you want their attention
